Our speakers will be Hosey Burgess, the Hampton Roads District Manager of the Virginia Employment Commission and Phyllis Clemons, the VEC’s Norfolk Office Manager.  As you know, the VEC has come under some pretty harsh scrutiny and been through some very challenging times dealing with the avalanche of unemployment claims created by COVID in the past year and a half.  And they can be a great tool for helping deal with the current labor shortage just about every local employer currently is facing.  Please come join us to hear Mr. Burgess and Ms. Clemons discuss how best to avoid problems in dealing with the VEC and to find out how the VEC can assist you in meeting your own talent acquisition and labor recruiting goals.

Emergency First Response REFRESHER (December 3) Cancelled

This is a 1/2 a day refresher course from 7:30am to 11:30am. The EFR Refresher course meets OSHA Guidelines 29CFR 1910.151 compliance standards for workplace safety.

Workforce Development Committee Meeting

Join the VSRA Workforce Development Committee for a meeting in-person or virtually via Zoom!

The VSRA Workforce Development Planning Committee facilitated a group roundtable that discussed current workforce concerns on October 8th. The ultimate goal of the session was to identify workforce gaps so the committee could introduce VSRA Members to organizations, educational institutions, and providers who could help fill those gaps.

The concerns addressed in the roundtable will help the planning committee to schedule relevant topics to present to member companies over the next year. It will also help VSRA partner organizations such as the Hampton Roads Workforce Council and training providers understand how to allocate resources to best serve the Ship Repair and Shipbuilding industry.

Please join our December meeting to hear the results of the roundtable, current initiatives to address immediate concerns, and for an overall discussion on how the industry can leverage existing resources to tackle common workforce needs and concerns. We look forward to your participation!

Emergency First Response Certification (December 6)

Emergency First Response training is OSHA approved and internationally accepted.  This course meets the OSHA Guidelines CFR 1910.151 compliance standards for workplace safety.

NAVSEA Basic Paint Inspector Certification (December 6-10) Cancelled

VSRA is one of the few organizations authorized to instruct this very specialized course.

OSHA 10 Hour Maritime Industry Course (December 13-14)

The OSHA-10 hour course awards the 10-hour certification card and meets all of the mandated regulations for the Maritime Industry (OSHA Code of Federal Regulations 29 CFR 1915) course in a format that specifically addresses the challenges and environmental conditions specific to the shipyards. In addition, ship yard specific regulations and issues are covered in depth. Instructors are authorized by OSHA endorsed certification programs. Cards are issued through the Instructor's certifying body. All book, material and certification costs are covered in the course fee.

VSRA General Membership Luncheon Meeting

VSRA Board of Directors meetings are held on the odd numbered months. The General Membership Luncheon meetings are held every month.
