Workforce Development Committee Meeting

Join the VSRA Workforce Development Committee for a special in-person only meeting!

This meeting will serve as a VSRA Member Roundtable on Workforce Concerns, and members of the VSRA Workforce Development Planning Committee will facilitate small group conversations on current workforce concerns. The ultimate goal of this session will be to identify workforce gaps so that the committee can introduce VSRA Members to organizations, educational institutions, and providers who can help fill those gaps in the future.

This Roundtable on Workforce Concerns will help inform the planning committee on topics to prepare for the Workforce Development Committee over the next year. It will also help VSRA partner organizations such as the Hampton Roads Workforce Council and regional community colleges (among others) understand how to allocate resources to best serve the Ship Repair and Shipbuilding industry.

For those unable to attend this meeting in person, a report out on identified topics will be provided at future Workforce Development Committee meetings.

Shipboard Cableway Inspection (October 12-14)

This course is under the oversight of HII Technical Solutions and upon successful completion attendees will receive a NAVSEA Cableway Certification card. The cableway program provides NAVSEA Cableway training and certification to students.

OSHA 5400 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Maritime Industry (October 12-15)

This course is designed for personnel in the private sector interested in teaching the 10 and 30 hour maritime safety and health outreach program to their employees and other interested groups.

OSHA 10 Hour Maritime Industry Course (October 18-19)

The OSHA-10 hour course awards the 10-hour certification card and meets all of the mandated regulations for the Maritime Industry (OSHA Code of Federal Regulations 29 CFR 1915) course in a format that specifically addresses the challenges and environmental conditions specific to the shipyards. In addition, ship yard specific regulations and issues are covered in depth. Instructors are authorized by OSHA endorsed certification programs. Cards are issued through the Instructor's certifying body. All book, material and certification costs are covered in the course fee.
